First Aid
Even if you take excellent care of your horse, bumps and scrapes are bound to happen.  Being prepared for minor first aid is an important aspect of being a responsible horse owner.

We recommend having the following items on hand in case of an emergency:

Topical Wound Ointment
Triple Antibiotic Ointment or
Neosporin
Swat or Corona
Thermometer
Digital or Mercury

Bandage Material
Cotton Wraps
Vet Wrap or Polo-type Wraps
Medications
Usually not necessary but may include Phenylbutazone "Bute"
and Antibiotic Eye Ointment


Normal Vital Signs

Temperature: 
98.5-101.5 F

Heart Rate:  
32-44 Beats/minute

Respiratory Rate: 
12-18 Breaths/minute
Wound Cleaner
Betadine Solution, Saline or Vetericyn for cleaning wounds.
